2020: Beginning of a new decade


For decades, the year 2020 has been projected to be a Phoenix.

Government execution plans, company goals, personal goals and milestones have been set for 2020 as many believe it's a year for revolution and change in the normalcy and way things are done in the world.

A major change that hit the economies of the world is the Covid-19 pandemic. The novel virus was detected in November 2019 and has been rooted in been transferable by contact.

Also, different economies of the world have put measures in place to curb the spread of the virus. Such measures include lock downs, partial lock down, social distancing, community relief programs, mass testing of people with symptoms, isolation centers and other policies.

In Nigeria, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has been working with the Federal ministry of health to contain the virus. Measures put in place by the federal institution is creation of isolation centers, palliatives to the less privileged and social media awareness in all languages to inform the citizens.

Guidelines given by the NCDC after the eased lock down on the 4th of May include the following:

a. Curfew - 8pm to 6am;
b. Outdoors - you must WEAR non-surgical masks;
c. Travel - inter-state travel is RESTRICTED;
d. Gatherings - no gatherings of more than 10 people outside workspace;
e. No GATHERING at Mosques or Church;
f. Travel outside Nigeria - NO INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS except ESSENTIAL flights;
g. Outdoors - maintain 2 METERS between you and the next person;
h. Facilities and business owners - PROVISION of soap and running water / sanitizers;
i. Public places - MANDATORY temperature screenings; and
j. Market places - CONTROLLED ACCESS to markets and business locations.

In conclusion, amidst the "new normal" and change caused by the pandemic, the important thing is to control our hearts and the space around you, especially during the lock down or self isolation.
